{"id":241,"date":"2016-12-15T19:10:25","date_gmt":"2016-12-15T18:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/childreninthecloud.org\/?page_id=241"},"modified":"2024-04-15T20:24:17","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T19:24:17","slug":"presentation-of-school-construction-project-simien","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/childreninthecloud.org\/en\/presentation-projet-construction-ecole-simien\/","title":{"rendered":"Presentation of Children in the Cloud"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h3 class=\"entry-title single-title\">Children in the Cloud \/ Sona Project<\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<p>The purpose of the <strong>Children in the Cloud Foundation<\/strong> is to support the creation and development of <strong>educational infrastructure<\/strong> to provide access to quality education for the children of Amhara by <strong>Ethiopia.<\/strong> The Foundation works in the high-altitude villages of <strong>Simien massif<\/strong> by getting people in the community to get personally involved in the project to build a school in Simien.<\/p>\n<p>It was during a trekking in 2015 in the massif of <a href=\"https:\/\/childreninthecloud.org\/en\/the-simien-massif-presentation\/\">Simien in Ethiopia<\/a> that we were made aware of the lack of school infrastructure in the village of Sona. It is located at an altitude of 3500m. Its inhabitants, far from any motorable road, live on a non-mechanized agriculture of cereals and a herd of sheep and buffaloes grazing above arable land. They live without water or electricity, in mud huts in great precariousness. No secondary school<\/li>\n<li>Self-sufficient and non-mechanized cereal agriculture<\/li>\n<li>Only one harvest per year<\/li>\n<li>Animals: sheep, cattle, chickens, mules, etc.<\/li>\n<li>No water nor electricity in the huts.<\/li>\n<li>No road, access only by mule tracks. The <strong>good governance<\/strong> of the project is a priority for us because it is the pledge of the adequacy to the needs and the sustainability of the project.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>construction committee<\/strong> (photo opposite) was thus put in place and the <strong>school committee<\/strong> pre-existing has been reactivated and reinforced. The construction committee plays a major role in the smooth running of the site, in particular it ensures that deadlines and costs are respected.<\/p>\n<p>The estimated cost of the entire Sona school project is CHF 400,000, excluding domestic contributions, i.e. the provision of the land and part of the transport and construction labour.<\/p>\n<p>The entire project was handed over at the beginning of 2023, disrupted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/childreninthecloud.org\/en\/the-foundations-activities-during-the-covid19-coronavirus-epidemic\/\"><strong>COVID 19 health crisis<\/strong>,<\/a> and the civil war that engulfed the region.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Children in the Cloud \/ Sona Project The aim of the Children in the Cloud Foundation is to support the creation and development of educational infrastructure to provide access to quality education for children in Amhara, Ethiopia.
