To improve schooling conditions, we planned to help distribute a snack after lessons, which take place between 8am and 1pm.
The project in brief
At present, the children have one meal in the morning and another in the evening. Essentially made up of a injera shared with the family.
Offering them an injera-based snack after class would improve their nutrition, would motivate them to attend classes and provide a source of income for the mothers who would prepare and distribute these snacks.
The financial commitment is significant and must be permanent, which is why we were thinking of starting this project at the beginning of the next September if sufficient funds would be available.
Project details:
On average, 600 children attend the Sona school every day. We estimate the unit cost of a injera at 1 CHF, each injera would be shared between 4 children. The average daily cost will be CHF 150.
Preparation and distribution would be carried out by volunteer mothers with the help of teachers and supervised by the School Committee.
Impact of the project:
Direct : Children who would be better nourished. Mothers who would have a small source of income.
Indirect The whole community would see children who are more motivated and in better shape to study.
Project status:
We have only raised 1305 frs since the launch of the campaign in May 2024. We are therefore unable to make a commitment at the start of the new school year and, although we regret it, we have decided to abandon this project and use the money raised to support the Sona community.
