Several thousand kilometres from the major cities, in the Sona region of Ethiopia, pupils at Chirolaba Secondary School are continuing their education in an environment where access to education remains a daily challenge. The 2026 annual results of the young people sponsored by the foundation Children in the Cloud provide a concrete overview of the progress made through this support.
Beyond simple averages, these reports (see end of article) tell a story: that of young people who, despite often difficult study conditions, are progressing through their schooling with determination.
A remarkable achievement among the youngest
The pupils of Year 9 present highly contrasting profiles, but several of them display particularly remarkable performances.
Two pupils clearly stand out with annual averages above 85 %, jointly securing first place in their year. Their results demonstrate an excellent command of all disciplines, particularly in computing, languages, and science.
Behind this leading duo, another student is achieving a similar average of 85 %, confirming a particularly high academic standard.
The ten pupils in this class have averages ranging from approximately 58 % to 86 %, revealing significant discrepancies but also an overall satisfactory level. All sponsored students are promoted to Year 11, a sign that each has passed their school year.
A generation of homogeneous Grade 10
Among students Year 11, the results appear particularly consistent.
The best average reached 83,18 %, with excellent performance in maths, biology and citizenship. Two other pupils also exceed the 80 %, illustrating a strong academic level.
The other students are performing in the range of 58 % and 67 %, showing that, while some encounter more difficulties, they remain able to continue their studies.
Once again, all the pupils monitored have passed. Year 11, which is a very positive indicator for this promotion.
In Grade 11, profiles of excellence are confirmed
The results of the students of Year 11 show that several young people are now developing an excellent academic level.
The best annual average reached 88,12 %, closely followed by another student at 88,37 %, grades that testify to real academic excellence.
Behind these leaders, several students achieve averages between 74 % and 79 %, while some experience more difficulties, with results around 60 %.
These disparities are a reminder of how much individual student paths remain different, but they also illustrate the importance of educational support made possible by sponsorship.
Future graduates continue their progression
The pupils of Year 13, in their final year of secondary school, are also showing encouraging results.
In the scientific stream, the highest average exceeds 85 %, with very strong performance in biology, agriculture and computer science.
In the other sections, the averages mainly oscillate between 62 % and 79 %, translating varied but generally satisfactory levels as the end of the secondary cycle approaches.
The mentions of «Pass» on the reports confirm the success of the students concerned and allow them to consider the continuation of their higher education or vocational training. The results of the entrance examination for the University of Debark or the College Polytechnique will be known in September.
Strong substances that are released
The analysis of the bulletins reveals several common trends.
Students generally achieve their best results in:
- Information Technology (IT) ;
- Physical education (PE) ;
- biology ;
- Citizenship.
Conversely, English and mathematics remain the most challenging subjects for some pupils, with sometimes noticeably lower grades. This situation is common in many rural Ethiopian schools, where teaching resources and daily exposure to English remain limited. Nevertheless, report cards show that several pupils also manage to achieve very good levels in these subjects.
Sponsorship, a lever for success
Beyond the figures, these results illustrate the concrete impact of the support provided by Children in the Cloud. We particularly note:
- the positive impacts of Construction of additional classrooms through our foundation in 2024-25, which has enabled all children to receive full days at school. Previously, the school operated in two shifts (morning and afternoon) and children only received half a day of lessons.
- In 2025, teachers had followed a teacher training at Debark University, funded by the Foundation, and which has undoubtedly had a positive impact on their pedagogical and academic skills
- in the same way, the teachers at the Sona school (Years 1 to 8) regularly undertake training to improve teaching and thus the level of children leaving school.
Sponsorship is not limited to financial aid. It allows these young people to continue their education in better conditions, to have the necessary equipment and to consider a future where studies become a real opportunity.
The fact that all the pupils followed are progressing to the next year is undoubtedly the most telling indicator. Behind every average hides a personal story, made of effort, perseverance and hope.
In a region where access to secondary education remains a privilege for many families, seeing these young people reach a new milestone in their educational journey is in itself a victory. For the Children in the Cloud Foundation, as well as for the sponsors who support them, these 2026 school reports serve as a reminder that regular support can bring about lasting change in the course of a person’s life.
