Humanitarian aid in Ethiopia

humanitarian aid ethiopia

The NGO Children in the Cloud (France & Switzerland) provides humanitarian aid in Ethiopia. More specifically, in the Amhara region and the Simien National Park, in the Sona commune (Kebele). Ethiopia is a country where many NGOs and humanitarian aid agencies are concentrated, particularly in the Somali region in the south-east of the country, where terrible droughts and famines occur regularly.

Addis Ababa, headquarters of the African Union

The Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, hosts the headquarters of the African Union (AU) and all associated diplomatic and economic activity. The European Union, the European Commission, the United States and China have large delegations in Addis Ababa. The international humanitarian aid NGOs are also and naturally very represented in Ethiopia. Children in the Cloud also has its head office there, housed free of charge in the Mullege Coffeeour partner from the outset.

Franco-Swiss humanitarian aid

Children in the Cloud is a foundation governed by Swiss law but co-founded by 2 Swiss and 2 French people. So you could call it a Franco-Swiss humanitarian aid NGO in Ethiopia! Its vocation and social purpose is to work in the field of education by building schools in Ethiopia, particularly in the Simien massif. Construction of the Sona school is nearing completion (see our article). However, we do not benefit from international aid programmes (EU, USAID, etc.). These are aimed at large organisations. Our entire budget comes from funds raised mainly in Switzerland, but also in Germany, France, Spain and the UK.

The humanitarian crisis in Tigray

Since 4 November 2020, armed conflict has broken out between the regional authorities of Tigray and the central Ethiopian state. The Simien massif lies on the border between the Amhara and Tigray regions. The town of Debark is also an important lock on one of the main road links between the Amhara and Tigray regions. Fortunately, however, the Simien National Park is not one of the conflict's "hot spots". The impact on the humanitarian aid we provide in Ethiopia has therefore been limited. We now hope that the warring parties will quickly find a peaceful solution to the conflict. The Tigrayan population is suffering greatly from the violence, but also from famine. Peace is therefore essential if humanitarian aid is to reach Tigray and the rest of Ethiopia.

Support our humanitarian action in Ethiopia!

By giving to Children in the Cloud, a small Swiss and French NGO, it is the guarantee that 100% of your donation will be used for concrete actions in the field. Indeed, our Foundation has no overheads in Europe. All administration and field operations costs are assumed by the administrators and volunteers of our Swiss NGO. In other words, when we go to the field, everyone pays their own travel expenses! This is simple and guarantees the best efficiency of work and use of the funds entrusted to us by our donors.
