With almost 2 billion francs of humanitarian donations in Switzerland in 2019, Swiss citizens are among the most generous in the world! Read our article on the statistics of donations in Switzerland. Switzerland is the home of many humanitarian associations and foundations and its citizens have a real culture of humanitarian giving and generosity. Children in the Cloud benefits from it on a small scale and measures, with gratitude, this generosity year after year.
Donate in Switzerland
As stipulated by law, you can deduct donations to charities on your tax return. The rules for charitable organizations, the size of the lump-sum deduction, the maximum amount that can be deducted and the minimum amount that must be donated in order to be able to deduct a donation vary from canton to canton (source Swiss Government).
To find out about your tax deductibility, you need to contact the tax authorities in your canton. Let's take the example of the canton of Vaud, where our Foundation is based.
Taxation of donations in the canton of Vaud
Donations (voluntary contributions - code 720) are deductible up to a maximum of 20% from the intermediate income. For natural persons: up to 20% of net income minus the deductions provided that these donations amount to at least CHF 100. Legal entities: up to 20% of net profit. (Art. 37 lit. i StG VD, Art. 95 para. 1 let. c) But beware: only donations to organizations and institutions that pursue public service goals or exclusively of public utility are tax deductible. This is the case of the Children in the Cloud Foundation since its creation on June 15, 2016.
